The cost of clarity

I've had the same glasses for 3-4 years.
I think I've changed out the lenses once or twice but haven't splurged on a new pair of frames.
The day has come to retire the old and rejoice in the new.
But I had forgotten just how expensive new glasses are!

I have a fairly high prescription (-8s) which means I'm incredibly near-sighted.
And my lenses are rather thick.
I'm not complaining as I know there are many people who are blind or nearly so.
I just can't see a darned thing without my glasses.
For years I wore contacts but working nights ruined that for me.
Seems my eyes just got to tired and dry from working the night shift.

I went to the eye doctor yesterday and he affirmed what I knew: I needed higher power lenses.
The optician was great, he picked out several frames for me to try.
Apparently I have a narrow face and a pale complexion (not news to me!!) so we had to accentuate the positives.
I found a pair I loved and since I haven't purchased prescription sunglasses in many many years, I decided to splurge.
The excitement of my new facial accessory diminished a bit when I saw the bottom line.
Yikes-a-roo!!
It was pretty much a mortgage payment.
And that's with $200 off regular price!

In order to not appear to have coke bottle lenses we have to do the high index lenses and rounding and polishing of the edges.
Add the glare-free finish.
Plus the frames (which are SO darn expensive).
Don't forget, the sunglasses!
Uffda...

I came home a bit disheartened at the amount of money I had spent in about an hour.
My husband is so good to me.
He reminded me that I wear my glasses every waking hour of every day.
So if we were to spend that kind of money, it was a good thing to invest in.
I got a twinge of excitement back as I got over the money and started thinking about my new look.
It's not drastic but they are cute.
And the sunglasses are AWESOME!
10-14 days is the turnaround time, I can hardly wait!!
