5 year old, Transformers and V*m*t
The morning had an anomalous beginning.
BabyGirl woke early as usual.
Big Boy #1 and #2 were still asleep...at 7:45am.
That is triple-check-to-make-sure-the-kids-weren't-abducted-or-stopped-breathing-during-the-night late.
They NEVER sleep that late for me.
BigBoy #2 has a cough so I heard that frequently enough to not be too concerned.
School starts at 8:30, though, so down the stairs I went at 7:45 to wake the slumbering giants.
The door was open wider than usual and Transformers was looped on the main menu.
BigBoy #1 had been up during the night watching a little TV.
I was greeted by a funky smell and thankfully decided to turn on the light before going any further.
Someone had...thrown up...a few hours before...all over the rug and floor.
Huh...
Now they are in the basement but we do have a video monitor.
And while I had worked nights the night before and slept poorly during the day, I usually hear this kind of thing.
Not to mention that would be something worthy of a trek upstairs by whichever kid puked...whether for consolation or assistance.
But no, neither.
Which told me it was BigBoy #1.
BigBoy #2 would've come upstairs freaked out for sure.
When I asked BigBoy #1 about it, he said he'd felt funny during the night and threw up.
Then he watched Transformers.
And went back to bed.
I asked him if he thought about coming upstairs to tell me.
He asked why.
Well...um...so I could help you, make sure you were ok, pray with you, clean up the mess.
He said he wouldn't have made it upstairs before he threw up so he didn't think it was a good idea.
Check and Mate?
Isn't it fascinating watching personalities evolve?
This is one part of parenting that never ceases to catch me off guard and set me in a state of wonder.
Watching the wheels turning as they formulate answers.
Beginning to explain what they were thinking (if they were, indeed, thinking).
I don't really know what to do from here with this situation.
BigBoy #1 isn't big on attention from being injured or sick.
Even if it involves up-chucking spaghetti and fruit snacks on the floor and not saying a word.
I can respect that part of him that decided it wasn't something he wanted to wake me up for.
Along with it, I need to teach him that sometimes, you need to get help.
Even if it draws attention and makes his mom fuss over him for a bit.
These kids sure do keep me on my knees...both spiritually and bodily!
