He moved his bag
Our BigBoy #1 has always been...strong.
There were numerous playdates that ended poorly in the early years due to his...strength.
He was the size of a 5 year old at 3 and we encouraged people to think of him as a dumb 5 year old or a really big 3 year old.
Behavior management topped our to-do list with him along with providing an appropriate outlet for his aggression.
Don't get me wrong, he's a great kid.
Just big and strong and LOVES to play.
Enter football this past fall.
He fell in love!
He did nothing but play and practice and was fantastic at it...he especially enjoyed defensive roles.
All he would do for hours was throw a football.
He got darn good.
This spring we fell into Lacrosse and WE (his parents) fell in love!
LAX (I've learned that's the abbreviation for the sport) is a fast-paced, contact-filled sport that BigBoy #1 has really improved at in just a few short weeks.
The games are 60 minutes and action packed which make it a treat for us to watch.
At practice tonight BigBoy #1 started out as usual; dropping his LAX tote with his water bottle next to where I was sitting and ran to the field.
Halfway through practice tonight he changed it up: he ran over, grabbed his bag and brought it to the sidelines.
Somehow I can't help but think this move means something more than just a different location for the bag.
He's growing up, moving into his own.
Starting to really grow into those men's size 9 Nikes.
It made me a little misty-eyed at the realization that he's stepping out of my arms a bit but mostly proud.
He's a good boy and FINALLY I can yell at him to "use your body", "push him" and "use your stick" after all these years of telling him NOT TO!
